Monohull

For those who are a bit adventurous and want to experience the real feeling of sailing. If you don’t mind the boat tilting on the side this is a perfect choice. The monohull has a longer keel so it can sail a lot better than the cat. If you are into speed and performance than this is a better option for you.

Catamaran

If you cherish your comfort and space then choose a catamaran.  The glamour and privacy it provides can not be compared to any other boat in the charter.

How to choose?

First step in organizing your sailing holiday is choosing the type of boat for your vacation. It all comes down to if you are a sports and adrenaline type of person or a family who would like to just kick back and enjoy your holiday.

There are a couple of differences we need to discuss  just to make sure you know all the features of both monohull and catamarans before making your decision.

Monohulls have an outside sitting space with a table where you can sit but sometimes that space is narrow and does not fit all the people unlike the catamaran that has a large outside sitting area and often a sitting area in the front part of the boat. Some catamarans have a net on the front which is quite amazing to lay on during your sail .

Second thing is on a monohull you have a staircase which brings you to the inside of the boat. That can sometimes be tricky if you have small kids on the boat or you just need to grab something from your cabin.

Catamarans have their kitchen connected to the sitting area so it is very easy to just grab something from the kitchen if needed. Kitchen on the cat has large windows that  allow a lot of sun and fresh air into the space.

 Monohulls have only one engine which means they can’t go so fast when there is not enough wind to sail. That can limit your options with the number of bays and beaches you can see on your holiday. Catamarans have two engines so they can go faster than the monohull but when it comes down to sailing the catamaran is no match for the monohull. Deeper keel, aerodynamic shape and better positions of the sails all make an impact on the sailing performance of the monohull.

Other pros and cons

Since catamarans have two hulls, the cabins are not divided by just one wall between them like in the monohull so you can have a little bit more privacy. Catamarans are a bit wider so they need more space in the marinas which means the docking prices are a bit higher. As we mentioned cats have two engines so they will spend a little bit more diesel than the monohull. We hoped this article was helpful for you to make your choice.
